Clinical Correlation Reflection

Having finished two semesters of clinical correlations, has thought me a lot as a student and as a future clinician. First, and in my opinion, most importantly, I think it has taught me how to take each symptom that is presented and use that infromation to narrow the diagnosis. Then before moving onto the physical exam, creating a list of differentials is also important. Taking those differentials and combining it with the findings of the physical exam, further eliminates possibilities, clarifying the pathway from making the correct diagnosis. Finally moving onto the labs and imaging should be for confirmatory measures.

What I really appreciated about the class was how people were able to speak their thoughts, which would spark an intellectual conversation within the group that everyone would participate in. It helped to open my mind to idea’s and possibilities which I had not thought about before. The conversations that we would have in class would help me to remember certain basic concepts in other events.

Every professor that we rotated with throughout this course had their strengths which was great because it helped the students on their areas of weakness. Whether they wanted to strengthen our capability of presenting a patient, keeping our minds open in an emergency scenario, or understanding the pathophysiology behind a topic, in my opinion, all the professors helped me elevate my skills and minimize my weakness.

Overall, I think it was a great course that was offered and was not overbearing. I think it makes a huge difference when I personally do my own research on a topic or diseases, versus being taught about it in class. I personally like studying independently because I know what concepts I do not understand and can ask questions about them during the session. I personally would not make any changes to the course itself. I am glad to have had this experience.
