I intend on taking the boards around the 6-week mark from graduation, however, I might not be allowed to, so I am going to prepare for the worst possible outcome. Overall, I do think I have made a large amount of improvement from didactic year, and a lot more topics and diseases make much more sense to me now. My second packrat score did improve when compared to my first packrat score, which means I am probably doing something right. I preformed decently throughout the EOR exams, but I cannot speak for this last one coming up (OB/GYN), but I am studying for it and I hope it all goes well. My Rosh Review score started out very poorly and is slowly improving over the past couple of months. As for my Exam Master questions, they have not been the greatest either. I was given some heat for not reviewing the questions enough and I think that is going to be the big difference between me studying while in PA school and me studying after PA school, I will actually have time to sit down and understand the disease, instead of memorizing high yield facts. I am hoping that York will have access to Kaplan questions soon, as I have heard that Kaplan questions are similar to those that will be seen on the boards. If Kaplan will not be provided, I will try to purchase it on my own, and will thoroughly read the explanations for each question that is given. I was also given the advice of switching on and off two days between Pance Prep Pearls and Rosh Review questions. When talking about which textbooks I will be using, I plan on using Pance Prep Pearls as my primary source, followed by Rx for the Boards, and then Examinations for Physician Assistant. I think if I use all these three textbooks in collaboration with each other, I think I will have a solid understanding of the topics. I also want to go back into the power points that were provided to us and review those slides as much as possible.
I found this great 8-week plan that I intend on following when it comes to studying for the boards. Of course, I am going to adjust it to my schedule and focus on what I am weak on, but overall, I think it is a great template to follow.
