Site Evaluation Presentation Summary – Ambulatory Care

I had my first and last site evaluation in NYPQ for my Ambulatory Care site. I had to opportunity to be evaluated by Professor Sadat. We had to present one of our history and physicals, as well as a relevant article. We were also tested on our pharm cards. There were two other students that were presenting with me, both of which were in family medicine. I presented my case first and I would say that I believe that I performed better than my previous presentations. I am unsure if the reason being was that I had taken the advice of my previous site evaluator, to only focus on pertinent positives, or if it was because my site evaluator had different expectations during presentation. I do not think I was as nerveous as I normally am, while presenting. However, something that I wish I did improve on was memorizing my cases before presenting.

As I mentioned in the past, one of my site evaluators had taken my case presentation without warning me before hand, and from then on, my goal was to memorize my cases inside-out. However, I believe that I have not reached that goal. Even though I know my patients, I know my case, I can not memorize the H&P word for word, unless it is required of me. I tend to mess up more when I try to memorize because I try to perfect what is written down, and then it seems that I do not know the patient enough. But that is not the case, I know I know the patient, and I know that I did not forget to ask the patient anything, but I guess it’s the anxiety I get from presenting that throws me off.

After presenting my case, I briefly presented my article. One critique I received about my article was that the study was done in Fiji, which is not really relevant to the United States. Had I picked an article that was more relevant, location wise, to my patient, I would think it would have been a better article to present.

Once I was done presenting my article, it was time for the other students to present. Throughout every student’s presentation, the professor would make a statement about the patient that would spark an interesting conversation about medicine, which was a great learning opportunity. When we were all done presenting, we then got tested on our pharm cards. Our site evaluator decided to surprise us by testing us on each other pharm cards, which is always refreshing. I was definitely not prepared for this event, but I don’t think I did completely horrible. I guess for next time, I would prepare in advance to memorize my fellow classmates pharm cards as well. I believe my site evaluator was very fair and reasonable.
